Research Topic / Main Questions:

Why do non-muslims run a halal farm?

Why did you choose this topic:

As a Muslim, when I heard that SunGold farms was an Halal certified slaughter house in Alberta being run by non-Muslims this really interested me in investigating why they would be interested in becoming Halal Certified when they have been a successful farm since 1974.

Please summarize your experience in researching this project?

My experience in researching this project was quite easy. SunGold had some great information online which was very useful. I also reached out to SunGold directly and asked for additional information and they were very helpful by answering them for me.

How did you personally connect to this project?

I am a 2nd generation Canadian Muslim who was amazed by the fact that SunGold Farms is operated in my province of Alberta by non-Muslim farmers. My parents tell me that while they were growing up in Canada in the 1970s, 80, 90s and even the early 2000s it was very difficult perhaps even impossible to find halal meat or halal food of any kind in Alberta.
Over the last few years Muslims living in Alberta and across the globe are now seeing a huge rise in Halal food options, which has been a wonderful change.

What are your conclusions about your topic?

With Islam being the fastest growing religion in the world, is it evident why SunGold Farms has become a Halal certified farm. The halal industry is a trillion dollar industry I understand why SunGold farms has invested in becoming Halal certified. This a food area which I am certain they will be profit from significantly.
