The Heritage Fair: An Introduction

Heritage School Fairs across Canada encourage students to explore Canadian heritage in a dynamic, supportive, hands-on learning environment. Students choose their own topic, research and write about the topic and then choose a format to present their project. Project topics are very diverse and may focus on history, heritage, geography or culture.

Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, the Edmonton Regional Heritage Fair will be hosting a Virtual Fair in May 2021!

Judges

To pull off a virtual event this size we need lots of volunteers. With over 100 students video projects we need as many as 100 volunteer judges. These judges review to at least three video presentations from students, and provide positive and constructive written feedback to students. Judge

Number of Positions: 100

Dates Required: May 6, 2023

Time Commitment: approx. 2-3 hours during the day

Description of Volunteer Position:

By volunteering in this position you give our students a virtual audience to demonstrate their knowledge. You provide key feedback in this celebration of the work the students have done.

Key Responsibilities:

Attend/watch volunteer training video
Interview at least 3 assigned presentations from students
Provide positive and constructive written feedback to students
Provide a grade based on criteria to be provided
Fill out an event evaluation at the end so we can make next year’s event even better

Qualifications:

Good written and oral communication skills
Interest in helping students grow and fostering their interest in the past
Excited about history

Best Suited for:

People with an interest in history

People who like kids

People with volunteer or professional experience in history or a related field, including museums, archives, genealogy, libraries, education, or historical organizations

Supervisor: Volunteer Co-ordinator

Volunteer training breakfast (8:30-9:00)
